iPhone Duo apps can ship now, but the SDK decides how they fill the screen
Every app will run on the foldable at launch; only rebuilt apps will use its full inner display properly.

Apple began accepting App Store submissions for apps optimized for iPhone Duo on October 5. The device is due to reach customers on October 23, and Apple says developers can prepare by recompiling with Xcode 27.1 and checking layouts in Device Hub across poses and orientations.
Apple's developer guidance sets out three tiers. Apps built with the iOS 26 SDK or earlier run in the center of the inner display with empty space around them. The iOS 27 SDK fills most of that display, while the iOS 27.1 SDK or later is required for the fully optimized layout, with toolbars and tab bars moving to a vertical position.
Opening submissions does not mean every app you use will look right on launch day.
Check your essential apps before the foldable arrives
Our take: if you are considering iPhone Duo for work, the apps you open daily matter more than the hardware headline. An app that runs is not necessarily an app that uses the larger display well.
For developers, layout fixes come first. Apple says screenshots for iPhone Duo become mandatory for new submissions starting in April 2027, so product page assets can follow later.
