iPhone Duo orders now slip to late January as Apple cites demand
Apple calls iPhone Duo pre-order demand extraordinary as new online orders now quote delivery in late January 2027.

iPhone Duo pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16, and within hours new online orders were quoting delivery in late January 2027 for every color and storage size, according to MacRumors and AppleInsider. Launch-day pickup inventory sold out. Apple responded with a short statement, reported by CNBC and others, calling pre-order demand "nothing short of extraordinary" and saying it is "working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers' hands as quickly as possible." Apple added that it will keep accepting orders online.
What Apple has confirmed
Apple's September 9 announcement and its October 15 pre-order update set the terms. Pricing on Apple's US store matches the four storage tiers.
- Price: $1,999 for 256GB, $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB, $3,199 for 2TB (US)
- Launch: Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, then 28 more on October 30
- Software: ships with iOS 27.1
- Leasing: Apple Upgrade from $57.99 a month over 24 months in the US
- Trade in: $175 to $885 credit for an eligible iPhone 13 or later
Apple has not said how many units it built, and its statement does not promise walk-in stock at Apple Stores on October 23. AppleInsider reported that some carriers and Best Buy showed earlier dates for part of Friday before those also slipped, which is a reminder that carrier estimates move quickly in both directions.
What to do if you need one for work
If a Duo is part of a work plan, such as replacing a phone and a small tablet, budget for a late January arrival from Apple and treat earlier carrier or in-store availability as a bonus. Skip resale listings. Reported eBay prices of $5,000 or more add thousands in cost, plus the usual risk of paying a stranger for a phone that has not shipped. Factor in support too: Apple's out-of-warranty price for an inner display repair is $999, so decide on AppleCare+ before the device arrives.
This does not mean the Duo is outselling the iPhone 18 Pro, or that supply will stay this tight into spring. Sold-out pre-orders show demand ran ahead of initial supply; they do not reveal unit sales.
Our take: Apple's statement is marketing, but the delivery dates are real. For Mac-centered teams, the practical move is to keep current phones in service through January rather than plan migrations around October 23.
Caveat: delivery estimates vary by country and change throughout the day.
