Apple's Self Service Repair Store now lists parts and tools for this fall's desktops and Pro iPhones. As of October 20, the store catalog includes "Mac mini (M6 or M5 Pro)," "Mac Studio (M5 Max or M5 Ultra)," "iPhone 18 Pro," and "iPhone 18 Pro Max." 9to5Mac and MacRumors report availability in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
What you can replace
Apple published repair manuals for both Macs on September 21, the day before they went on sale. The procedures in those manuals show what is serviceable:
- Mac mini (manual ID LQRHBW): bottom cover, power button, battery, antennas, fan, speaker, front USB-C ports, audio board, logic board, power supply, and housing
- Mac Studio (manual ID PJEMTC): power supply, internal frame, antennas, speaker, battery, SDXC card slot board, SSD modules, Ethernet board, front USB-C and back Thunderbolt ports, logic board, fan, and housing
For iPhone 18 Pro, 9to5Mac lists parts including display, battery, back glass, cameras, and logic board. It reports the rear camera module at $249, or $189.24 after a $59.76 credit for returning the old part.
How the program works
Apple says Self Service Repair is meant for people with experience repairing electronics. You read the manual first, note the manual ID, then order genuine parts and buy or rent tools from the store, which is run by a third-party provider. Some parts require the device serial number. Afterward, Apple's Repair Assistant or System Configuration software finishes the repair when the manual calls for it, and some returned parts earn a credit.
Who should care
IT teams that keep Mac minis in conference rooms or Mac Studios in render racks now have an official way to swap a failed fan, port board, or power supply without shipping the machine out. Individuals should weigh tool rental and their own time against an Apple Store visit, especially while units are still under warranty or AppleCare.
This does not mean the Mac Studio's SSD modules are now a sanctioned storage upgrade path. Self Service Repair is a replacement program for out-of-warranty repairs, and parts are tied to specific models.
Our take: this is the expected steady expansion, but having desktop parts available within a month of launch is useful for anyone managing a fleet.
Caveat: prices and part lists vary by country, and Mac part prices were not confirmed for this article.
