macOS 27.3 beta flags Intel-only printer drivers and adds vertical tabs
macOS 27.3 beta 1 warns about Rosetta printer drivers and plug-ins, adds Safari Vertical Tabs and Copilot in Xcode.

Apple released the first developer beta of macOS 27.3 Golden Gate, build 26C5035r, on November 3, 2026, together with Safari 27.3 beta and Xcode 27.3 beta. The headline consumer feature is Vertical Tabs in Safari, but the change most likely to reach office Macs is a new set of Rosetta warnings.
Rosetta warnings for printers and plug-ins
Apple's release notes say macOS 27.3 now notifies you when you print with a printer driver that requires Rosetta and has not been updated for Apple silicon, and prompts you to install Rosetta if it is missing. It also flags audio plug-ins and print dialog extensions that need Rosetta, and lists them in the Intel-based apps list in General settings. Apple's suggested fix is AirPrint, which most printers support without an extra driver, or asking the vendor about an Apple silicon update.
Safari, Xcode and developer changes
- Safari 27.3 beta adds Vertical Tabs, a sidebar-style tab layout, and is also offered for macOS 26 and macOS Sequoia
- Xcode 27.3 beta adds GitHub Copilot to the built-in coding assistant, ships with Swift 6.4, and requires macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later
- Xcode can now run UI tests written with Swift Testing and XCUIAutomation
- StoreKit adds a property for checking whether a subscription supports multiseat purchases
The same day, Apple posted the first beta releases of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, tvOS 27.3, visionOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3.
Who should care
IT admins and small offices with older printers, scanners with print drivers, or Intel-only audio plug-ins should take inventory now, because these prompts will be the first visible sign of a problem for many users. Developers can test the new Xcode features, but should keep production builds on Xcode 27.2.
This does not mean macOS 27.3 removes Rosetta or blocks Intel drivers; the notes describe notifications, not a cutoff.
Our take: the warnings are a nudge toward the end of Rosetta, and a sensible one. Replacing a driver is easier on your schedule than after a forced change.
Caveats: this is beta 1, and features can change or be pulled before release. Press reports also describe an Adaptive Dark Mode for Safari, which Apple's release notes do not list, so treat it as unconfirmed. Apple has not given a release date. Do not install betas on Macs you rely on for work.
