iOS 27.2 brings Pencil to iPhone Duo and lets Siri AI recall past chats
iOS and iPadOS 27.2 add Siri AI memory, app exclusions and five languages, plus Pencil support on iPhone Duo.

Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, for every iPhone and iPad that runs version 27, including iPhone Duo. It is the first feature update since iOS 27 shipped on September 14, and it confirms what testers saw in the release candidate: Apple Pencil now works on iPhone Duo.
What changes on iPhone and iPad
From Apple's release notes, the Siri AI changes apply to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models and later:
- Siri AI can recall past conversations and use more personal context, such as photos in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and Safari history.
- Excluded Apps sets which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, in one place.
- You can select and copy part of a Siri response.
- Siri AI adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. It remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China.
Other additions include Suggestions in Messages for quick Calendar and Reminders actions, Simple Profiles in the Apple TV app, SynthID watermark support for AI-edited images, and third-party sign-language interpreters or live captioners in FaceTime. On the new iPad mini, Apple says iPadOS 27.2 adds extended display mode on an external monitor.
iPhone Duo gets Apple Pencil
Apple's user guide says iPhone Duo works only with Apple Pencil (USB-C), which costs $79. Apple Pencil Pro and older models are not compatible. You pair it by connecting the Pencil to the Duo with a USB-C cable and tapping "Tap to Connect," and it stays paired until you restart, turn off Bluetooth, or pair it elsewhere. Apple's Duo release notes also list Edge Light for video calls.
Security and older devices
Apple's security note for iOS and iPadOS 27.2 lists 163 CVE IDs by our count, including a CoreMedia camera access flaw and an Apple Intelligence bug that could let a remote attacker access sensitive data. Apple does not say any were exploited. iOS 26.7.2 and iOS 18.7.11 cover devices that stay behind.
This does not mean Siri AI is finished. Apple still labels it beta.
Our take: update managed iPhones and iPads after a short pilot. Duo owners who mark up PDFs finally get a Pencil, but only the cheapest one.
Caveat: we have not tested Pencil latency or Siri memory, and feature availability varies by region.
