Apple's $39 travel adapter kit returns, but it skips the 96W charger
The new kit and $19 extension cable use AC Connector 2 and fit only the 70W and 140W adapters, per Apple's store.

Apple brought back its World Travel Adapter Kit on October 28, 2026, priced at $39 in the U.S., alongside updated 70W and 140W power adapters ($59 and $99) and a new $19 Power Adapter Extension Cable. All of them use what Apple calls AC Connector 2, a pill-shaped connector that replaces the notched AC Connector 1 on older adapters.
Why the connector changed
Apple's support document says the new connector exists "because of updated regulations" and that extension cables and plugs, which Apple calls duckheads, are not cross-compatible between the two connector types. That left owners of the new adapters without a matching travel kit until now. The returning kit includes five plugs:
- Type A for North America and Japan
- Type C for continental Europe and Brazil
- Type D for India
- Type G for the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Singapore
- Type I for Australia and New Zealand
Check your adapter before you buy
Apple's product page lists only the 70W and 140W adapters as compatible with the new kit. The extension cable page still groups the 96W and 35W Dual Port adapters with AC Connector 1. That matters for new MacBook Pro buyers: the 14-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display ships with a 70W adapter on the 15-core M5 Pro and a 96W adapter on the 18-core M5 Pro and M5 Max models.
Before ordering, slide the plug off your adapter and look at the connector shape, or compare it with the pictures in Apple's support document. If you travel with several Apple chargers, you may need both connector types for a while. This does not mean your old adapters are unsafe or unsupported; they simply need matching AC Connector 1 accessories.
Our take: a welcome return for frequent travelers, but two incompatible connectors on adapters sold side by side is the kind of detail that ends with a charger that will not fit in a hotel room.
Caveats: compatibility lists are as shown on Apple's U.S. store on October 29, 2026, and could change as Apple updates more adapters.
