Apple unveiled the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K on October 13 with an A19 chip, built-in far-field microphones, and Siri AI as a full-screen living-room assistant. Pre-orders started the same day in the US and 29 other countries and regions, with availability beginning Friday, November 13. The box is $299 in the US, or $49.83 a month for six months through Apple financing.
Hardware and home theater
The upgrade is clearest if you use Apple TV as a daily living-room computer and home hub.
- Chip: A19, up to 50% faster CPU and up to 2x faster GPU than the prior model, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder
- Voice: three far-field mics for hands-free Hey Siri or Siri, with echo cancellation while audio plays
- Remote: Siri Remote gains Find My with Precision Finding and play-a-sound
- Surround: four-speaker HomePod setups with HomePod mini 2 or matching HomePod (2nd generation) pairs
- Home hub: Thread and Wi-Fi, camera activity descriptions, summarized Home notifications, guest mode
Siri AI launches in English as a beta on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. Personal-context requests need an Apple Intelligence iPhone. Continuity Camera FaceTime, Fitness+, Arcade, and customized iCloud photo screen savers remain part of the pitch.
What this does not change
This does not mean older Apple TVs gain the new microphones or A19 performance. Far-field mics and the chip are fourth-generation hardware. Four-speaker surround needs the new Apple TV 4K plus compatible HomePods with matching front and rear pairs. If you mainly AirPlay from a Mac, a cheaper HDMI stick or the prior Apple TV may still be enough.
Our take: Mac workers who already treat Apple TV as the house media PC get a real hub upgrade next to HomePod mini 2. Skip it if your current box is fine and you only cast tabs or meetings occasionally.
The new Siri Remote also sells separately for Apple TV HD and prior Apple TV 4K; Find My needs Siri Remote 2nd generation or later.
