iPhone Duo repairs hit $999 for the inner display without AppleCare+

Apple's out-of-warranty service table for iPhone Duo is live on Apple's iPhone repair pages, and outlets pulled the numbers on October 14 as pre-orders approach. Duo starts at $1,999, so the repair ladder matters if you skip AppleCare+. Estimated fees from Apple for out-of-warranty service are not final quotes. Apple says technicians inspect the device, tax and shipping may apply, and Apple Authorized Service Providers can set their own prices.
Estimated fees without AppleCare+

AppleCare+ pricing for iPhone on Apple's fees page uses foldable language that matches Duo: $19 for cover-layer-only damage, $29 for outer display and back glass, $99 for inner display or other accidental damage, and $149 for theft and loss where that plan applies. Battery service under AppleCare+ is typically no extra charge when capacity falls below Apple's threshold. Exact AppleCare+ purchase price for Duo depends on the plan you pick at checkout.
What the numbers do not mean
This does not mean every fold damage is a $1,499 bill, or that AppleCare+ is mandatory. "Other damage" is the catch-all after inspection. If you already buy AppleCare One or AppleCare+ for other devices, check whether Duo can join that plan before paying twice. Self service and third-party shops are outside these Apple estimates.
Our take: for Mac-centered workers who treat Duo as a second screen for Slack, Zoom, and Notes, the $999 inner display and $1,499 other-damage lines are the decision points. Price AppleCare+ against those two figures and your risk tolerance, not against the $49 cover-layer fee alone.
