Apple confirms original HomePod mini will not get Siri AI
Apple says Siri AI stays on HomePod mini 2 and supported Apple TV 4K models, not the 2020 mini.

Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac on October 14 that Siri AI will not come to the original HomePod mini. A CNET story briefly claimed the S5-powered mini would gain Siri AI with later software; CNET corrected that claim, and Apple's statement matches the correction. Siri AI on speakers is tied to HomePod mini 2, which Apple announced October 13 with an S10 chip and Siri AI "in a future software update."
Which home devices get Siri AI
Apple's Newsroom footnotes and the press confirmation sketch a clear split.
- HomeView: Siri AI at launch on November 13 in supported English markets
- Apple TV 4K (4th generation): Siri AI at launch November 13, with far-field mics on the new hardware
- Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later): Siri AI beta in tvOS 27.2 per Apple TV Newsroom footnotes
- HomePod mini 2: ships October 30; Siri AI arrives later via software in English markets
- Original HomePod mini and original HomePod: no Siri AI
- HomePod (2nd generation): still unconfirmed by Apple for Siri AI
Launch English markets named for home Siri AI include the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. EU availability is blocked while Siri AI remains unavailable on iOS and iPadOS there. HomeView is not selling in the EU for that reason. Personal-context requests generally need a paired Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad with Siri AI on.
What buyers should not assume
This does not mean every HomePod mini 2 will speak Siri AI on October 30, or that buying HomeView upgrades older minis in other rooms. Each supported speaker or Apple TV needs eligible software, language, and Home-owner settings. If you own a stack of 2020 minis, plan on keeping classic Siri there unless you replace hardware.
Our take: Mac users shopping the Welcome home kit should treat Siri AI as a reason to buy HomePod mini 2 or a supported Apple TV, not as a free software gift for the first mini. Wait for the software update before judging voice quality on the new speaker.
Apple still labels Siri AI a beta on these home products.
