Apple's documented requirements make AI storage worth considering before your next upgrade.

Apple Intelligence is not only a question of chip compatibility. It also uses local storage, which matters when a Mac already has little room for projects, downloads, and application data.
Apple lists up to 14 GB for Macs with M3 or later and at least 12GB of unified memory, and up to 8 GB for other supported Macs. Those are the documented requirements; they should not be confused with a universal measurement of what every user's Storage screen will show.
Plan around the whole workload
Our take: include AI alongside your apps and active files when deciding how much internal storage you need. A machine that technically supports a feature may still need housekeeping before it fits comfortably into daily use.
This article does not establish a storage bug or a measured 30GB footprint. The useful, confirmed point is simpler: local AI has a capacity cost, and the requirement differs by hardware.
